Ambrose Philipek

Ambrose Philipek was born and raised in Salem, Oregon, with a robust music program in the public schools. He first became interested in music after hearing a fiddler while camping in Louisiana. He began playing violin in fourth grade and continued in orchestra through high school when he first became interested in historical performance. He moved to Portland in 2016 to pursue violin with Dr. Tomas Cotik at Portland State University and graduated in 2020. He also began taking baroque lessons with Anthony Allen from 2016-2021. In 2021 he moved to Boston to pursue a masters degree in Baroque violin. He currently studies with Dana Maiben and Sarah Darling at Longy School of Music where he expects to graduate in May of 2023. 

Ambrose enjoys performing on many different instruments and styles including baroque and modern violin, baroque viola, medieval vielle, and tenor viola da gamba. Ambrose is experienced with music from the 13th century to the present day. He also plays with Harvard Baroque Orchestra, Oriana Consort, and Berklee studio orchestra. In the past Ambrose has performed with the Portland State University orchestra, Portland Ballet Theatre, and St. John’s Bach cantata orchestra. He also teaches private violin lessons.
