Dana Maiben
Hailed by the Boston Globe for her “supremely joyous artistry,” Dana Maiben is founder and director of Concerto Incognito, an ensemble dedicated to the study and performance of the music, poetry, and theater of the early modern period. Dana performs on violin, viola, medieval fiddles, historical keyboards, and as a conductor, and is a prize-winning composer whose work has been premiered in Boston, New York City, and in Farmington and Saco, Maine. Dana’s recording of the complete violin sonatas of Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre was released last year on the Centaur label. Other recording credits include projects for DHM, Dorian, EMI, and fuga libera labels. Dana has served as music director of Genesee Baroque Players and of Foundling Baroque Orchestra and Women’s Advocacy Project, and as concertmaster for New York Collegium, New York Ensemble for Early Music, Upper Valley Baroque, Arcadia Players, and Apollo Ensemble. Jaap Schroeder, James Caldwell, Thomas Binkley, and Lou Harrison have been important mentors. Since 1989 Dana has served on the faculty of the Longy School of Music of Bard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she maintains a baroque violin and viola studio, teaches historical performance practice classes, coaches chamber music, and conducts early opera.
