Shea Brown
Shea Brown is a clear-voiced soprano with a diverse musical background and a passion for early music and oratorios. Driven by a love of music, history, and social justice in current events, Brown enjoys pairing Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoire with contemporary music to highlight the historical repetitions that continue to affect modern society.
Brown made her master work debut in 2016 when she performed the first soprano solos in Vivaldi’s Magnificat in G Minor with CU Boulder’s Collegiate Chorale. The following summer, she was invited to perform at the inaugural Bach Fest Florence in Florence, SC, where she performed the solos in Cantatas BWV 4 and BWV 140. In April 2019, Brown was asked to sing the soprano solos for Mozart’s Mass in C Major “Coronation Mass” with the Rocky Mountain Chorale in Longmont and Boulder, CO.
Beyond the scope of classical music, Brown has participated in numerous musical theater productions. She played Fräulein Schneider in Cabaret, Meg Boyd in Damn Yankees, and the lead role of Jo March in Little Women: The Musical. In addition to her solo career, Brown has over 20 years of experience in choral settings, from contemporary a cappella, madrigal, and vocal jazz ensembles to 50-voice choirs.
When not performing, Brown enjoys the unique one-on-one connection that comes from teaching aspiring singers. Over the last five years she has taught students of all levels ranging in age from 11 to 65. Because of her diverse background in music, Brown facilitates her students’ journeys toward their unique singing goals and finds fulfillment in fostering each student’s singular voice.
Shea Brown is currently pursuing her MM in Historical Performance at Longy School of Music of Bard College where she studies with Anne Azéma. She holds a BM in Voice Performance from University of Colorado Boulder, where she studied with Abigail Nims.
